App Lists

One of the most commonly asked questions by teachers receiving a new iPad or iPod Touch is, “What apps should I download?”  While the question seems relatively simple, it is quite challenging to answer.  There are thousands of great apps, but often the best ones can be found after thinking through the following questions.

  • How are you hoping to use your iPad?
  • Will your device be primarily used by students or teachers?
  • What instructional goals have you outlined?
  • Are you looking for free or fee-based apps?
  • Will your students be using the iPad to review concepts or to generate new content?

As a result, Technology Services has begun to compile a series of app lists.  Take a look at the following pages as you begin your own app journey.

  • First 10 – Ten apps you might download as you begin your own iPad journey.
  • Digital Writing Apps – Will you or your students be using their devices as digital writing tools?  If so, this series of apps may be worth investigating.
  • Interactive Whiteboard Apps – An app list worth investigating if you plan on using your iPad as an interactive whiteboard.
  • Apps for ELL Students – A list of apps provided by two San Juan ELIS teachers they have found effective in their own classrooms.
